Hargrove Cycles - e-Commerce & Warehouse Management

Hargroves Cycles is a recognised cycling retailer, with 5 stores in the south of England and a strong online presence. Customers see them as a trusted supplier, thanks to their highly trained staff who are themselves passionate about cycling. They have a wide range of products, competitive pricing and returns commitment. So what was the problem?

In today’s business environment, excellent staff and a high street presence must be complemented by a fast and effective online sales process. Hargroves Cycles needed our help to rethink their website and back-office systems, paying particular attention to the sales platform, warehouse management and eCommerce.

The challenge

There were 4 key challenges to overcome:

– The website was inconsistent and could no longer support the volume of online sales
– The eCommerce system was extremely fragile and prone to crashing. A new platform was needed to manage stock, orders and customer services
– The incumbent agency was not responsive
– An integrated warehouse management system was needed to assign and pick and pack directly from the website.

The solution

After assessing the issues, we proposed a strategy consisting of:

– Magento for eCommerce [1]
– PeopleVox for warehouse management [2]
– Zync XML connector for integration
– Find an offshore team to deliver everything on a tight budget.

A robust eCommerce solution was needed to handle stock, orders and customer services. We chose Magento Commerce 2, a solution that is scalable from SMB up to enterprise level. It is extremely flexible offering both business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) features.

Magento allowed us to create a full-lifecycle shopping experience, perfectly suited to Hargroves Cycles combination of high street and online sales. Customers could now order online for delivery or collection, and in-store staff could help customers by finding an item at another location and shipping it directly.

The warehouse management system needed to handle multiple warehousing stock locations, with live feeds imported from multiple locations. We chose PeopleVox, which is an enterprise-level warehouse management system (WMS) designed specifically for e-commerce companies.

PeopleVox provided the warehouse management features to optimise what inventory is stored at each location, and ensure accuracy in inventory management. Barcoded items could be “moved” by scanning the item or selecting all items in the location. Staff could pick and pack one order at a time following the most efficient route through the warehouse.

We chose Zync XML connector as the “glue” to connect the systems.
